Enhanced SharePoint Search

MEI is a UK charity working to improve maths education.

It recognises the importance of making the maths that young people study relevant to an increasingly data-driven world and offers self-study and taught Data Science courses.

However, the Dark Spark team taught the charity how to apply Data Science to their own operations by using MEI's existing Microsoft tools to transform the searchability of their SharePoint resources in just two weeks.

The Problem

MEI provides free mathematics resources to schools and uses Microsoft SharePoint for internal document management.

However, staff found it time-consuming navigating through the file hierarchy to access individual resources, and as files are organised by exam board, it was difficult to view them by alternative dimensions such as qualification level, topic or resource type.

Also, staff had to be familiar with the filename shorthand to quickly understand the content of each document.
